Four recently-traded Celtics make debuts for their new team

Over the summer, the Boston Celtics traded away four key players. Marcus Smart, Malcolm Brogdon, Grant Williams, and Robert Williams all waived goodbye to the Celtics organization as they were sent to teams around the Western Conference. On Wednesday, October 25, those four players debuted for their new teams.

Smart assumed a starting guard role for the Memphis Grizzlies. Grant Williams also started for the Dallas Mavericks. Robert Williams and Brogdon both came off the bench for the Portland Trail Blazers. All four players performed well for their respective teams despite only being with them for a few short months.

Their single-game averages looked like this:

  • Marcus Smart: 17 points,  3 assists, 2 steals, 5 turnovers on 54.5% shooting from the field

  • Robert Williams: 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block, on 71.4% shooting from the field

  • Malcolm Brogdon: 20 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, 50% shooting from the field

  • Grant Williams: 17 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block, 3 turnovers, 54.5% shooting from the field

Outside of Brogdon, the former Celtics are all former Danny Ainge draft picks. Their fanbase has watched them develop from raw rookies into valuable role players with significant postseason experience. While they’re no longer with the Celtics franchise, is great to see they’ve already begun making an impact for their new teams.

The Celtics were also in action on October 25, defeating the New York Knicks 108-104 in a tightly-contest curtain raiser for both teams. Boston’s new-look roster will play their second game of the season on October 27 in an Eastern Conference Finals rematch against the Miami Heat.
