Former Memphis basketball star DeAndre Williams, DeMarcus Cousins team up to win Taiwan title

DeAndre Williams is a basketball champion again.

The former Memphis basketball star helped the Taiwan Beer Leopards sweep the Taipei Taishin Mars to win the Taiwanese T1 League title on Saturday. Former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins was named finals MVP, leading the Beer Leopards to an undefeated run through the T1 playoffs.

In nine total games with the Beer Leopards this season, Williams averaged 11.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Williams also played two games for the NLEX Road Warriors of the Philippine Basketball Association.

The 27-year-old native of Houston, Texas, spent three seasons with the Tigers. An effervescent demeanor coupled with all-conference ability, Williams quickly became a fan favorite at Memphis, where he averaged 14.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game from 2020-23.

The final win of Williams' Tigers career came over his hometown Houston Cougars on March 12, 2023. He scored 16 points and had 13 rebounds in Memphis' 75-65 win in the AAC tournament championship game at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. It is the only AAC title the Tigers have won and it is the only win over a No. 1-ranked team in the country in program history.
