Fever's Kristy Wallace returns from Paris with bronze medal, good review of Olympic muffins

INDIANAPOLIS -- Fever forward Kristy Wallace can confirm the viral rumors that came out of the Olympic Village in Paris: The chocolate muffins are amazing.

Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen brought chocolate muffins into the limelight with a series of TikTok's, and Wallace tried one herself.

"The chocolate muffins were really good there," Wallace said. "They were really good. So that's a highlight."

Wallace was the only Fever player to head to Paris for the Olympics. She was one of 12 players for Team Australia, which featured five other current WNBA players and New York Liberty coach Sandy Brondello. The Australians had little time to prepare together with that much WNBA talent, but met overseas to get in practice time

Australia got through the group stage with a 2-1 record, then made it all the way to the Olympic semifinals before running into Team USA. The Opals fell 85-64 to the Americans, with Wallace playing 21 minutes.

Despite a loss in the semifinal round, Australia still had a chance to make the podium. It beat Belgium, 85-81, in the bronze medal game to make the women's basketball podium for the first time since the 2012 Games.

It was something Wallace had dreamed of her entire career. Not only was she an Olympian, but an Olympic medalist.

"I was crying, I was such a softie," Wallace said of her emotions when she was awarded the medal. "I was just so happy, and so many emotions had built up over the past few years through injury and all the setbacks I'd been through. Just to finally get to be an Olympian, and then an Olympic medalist, it was just overwhelming. It's still sinking in, I'm still processing, but it's special."

After that, it was time to celebrate with their families in Paris.

"Oh, we went hard," Wallace said. "You have to. We went to a bar straight after (the medal ceremony), we caught up with our family and the crew and just celebrated."

Now, back in the U.S., she's working to get back up to speed on what her Fever teammates have been doing stateside. Indiana has been practicing new sets for the past three weeks, as well as doing other team-bonding activities like a scavenger hunt, home run derby, ropes course, and trip to the Indiana State Fair.

"They told me they did a lot of stuff, which sounded cool," Wallace said. "They caught me up to speed on court, as well, so I'm glad to be back with the group."
