FAMU football's SWAC home opener vs Alabama A&M postponed due to Hurricane Helene

Approaching Hurricane Helene has put a pin on Florida A&M football’s Southwestern Athletic Conference home opener.
The potential Category 3 hurricane has postponed Saturday’s SWAC home opener hosted by the Rattlers versus the Alabama A&M Bulldogs at Bragg Memorial Stadium until Friday, Nov. 29.
“Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff,” FAMU’s Acting Athletics Director Michael Smith said in a released statement.
“Given the uncertainty surrounding Hurricane Helene, we feel it is in everyone’s best interest to reschedule the game.”
Saturday’s game would’ve been the Rattlers’ first and only home game of September against the Bulldogs. Both teams hold a 2-2 record.
FAMU’s last home game was against South Carolina State on Aug. 31. The Rattlers prevailed 22-18 to move their second-longest winning streak in the nation to 21 games.
FAMU football will return to action at Alabama State next week on Oct. 5. The Rattlers’ next home game is on Oct. 26 versus the Southern Jaguars.
Among other FAMU-related activities, the campus will be closed from Wednesday to Friday. FAMU canceled classes from 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Wednesday’s 220 Quarterback Club luncheon is also canceled. Friday’s FAMU’s Sports Hall of Fame enshrinement to induct 12 at the Hansel E. Tookes Sr. Recreational Center is also postponed.
FAMU will provide further updates on game day details and ticketing in the future.
