Here are the 2024 Journal Star boys basketball all-area honorees in alphabetical order, led by player of the year and separated by Class 3A, Class 2A and Class 1A players.
Lathan Sommerville, Richwoods
The 2024 player of the year and Rutgers commit guided Richwoods to statewide prominence again, capturing the Class 3A third-place trophy. He averaged 26.3 points, 13.7 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 blocks for the Knights, who finished 30-5 overall and took second in the Big 12 Conference at 9-1. The 6-foot-10 senior center's individual accolades include all-Big 12 Conference first team, Big 12 co-player of the year, Illinois Basketball Coaches Association all-state first team and Illinois Media all-state first team. Sommerville joins his dad, Marcellus Sommerville (2001), to become the first father-son duo to earn the honor in the award's 33-year history.

CLASS 3A
Jared Jackson, Richwoods
The 6-foot-3 senior guard averaged 12.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 blocks for the Knights, who went 30-5 overall, took third place in Class 3A and were the Big 12 runner-up at 9-1. His individual accolades include all-Big 12 second team and IBCA all-state second team.
Cooper Koch, Metamora
The 6-foot-8 senior forward and Iowa signee averaged 17.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists for the Redbirds, who finished 30-5 overall, were Mid-Illini Conference co-champions at 13-1 and a Class 3A sectional finalist. His individual accolades include all-Mid-Illini first team, IBCA all-state first team and Illinois Media all-state first team.
Tyler Mason, Metamora
The 6-foot-2 senior guard and Winona State recruit averaged 15.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists for Metamora, which were 30-5 overall, Mid-Illini co-champs at 13-1 and won a Class 3A regional. His individual accolades include all-Mid-Illini first team, IBCA all-state second team and Illinois Media all-state honorable mention.
Gus Rugaard, Morton
The 6-foot-2 senior guard averaged 16.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists for the Potters, who finished 28-5 overall and shared the Mid-Illini Conference championship at 13-1. His individual accolades include all-Mid-Illini first team, IBCA all-state third team and Illinois Media all-state honorable mention.

CLASS 2A
Eoin Dillon, Peoria Notre Dame
The 6-foot-9 senior guard and Belmont recruit averaged 18.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals for the Irish, who finished 14-18 overall, finished in the Big 12 Conference His individual accolades include all-Big 12 Conference first team and IBCA all-state first team.
Dion Doyle, Macomb
The 6-foot-5 senior forward averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds for the Bombers, who finished 28-6 overall, won the Prairieland Conference-South Division at 5-0 and a run to the Class 2A Elite Eight. His individual accolades include all-Prairieland Conference-South Division unanimous first team, IBCA all-state special mention and Illinois Media all-state honorable mention.
Jonah Funk, El Paso-Gridley
The 6-foot-10 junior center averaged 14.9 points, 10.9 rebounds and 3.2 blocks for the Titans, who finished 25-6 overall, second in the Heart of Illinois Conference at 11-1 and won the State Farm Holiday Classic small-school division. His individual accolades include all-Heart of Illinois first team, all-HOI first-team all-defensive team, IBCA all-state third team and Illinois Media honorable mention.
Tyler Heffren, Eureka
The 6-foot-4 senior guard/forward averaged 21.8 points and 9.1 rebounds for the Hornets, who finished 13-18 overall and won the McLean County/Heart of Illinois Conference Tournament consolation title. His individual accolades include all-Heart of Illinois Conference unanimous first team, IBCA all-state first team and Illinois Media all-state honorable mention.
Dietrich Richardson, Manual
The 6-foot-7 junior point guard and Division-I prospect averaged 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks for the Rams, who finished 21-12 overall, finished tied for fifth in the Big 12 Conference at 5-5 and won a Class 2A regional championship. His individual accolades include all-Big 12 unanimous first team, IBCA all-state second team and Illinois Media all-state second team.

CLASS 1A
Hank Alvey, Illini Bluffs
The 6-foot-9 senior forward and Lehigh recruit averaged 18.1 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.9 blocks, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals for the Tigers, who finished 33-4 overall, making the Class 1A Elite Eight and winning the Inter-County Athletic (7-0) and Tomahawk (7-0). His individual accolades include all-ICAC first team, all-Tomahawk unanimous first team, IBCA all-state first team and Illinois Media all-state first team.
Drew Kieser, Brimfield
The 6-foot senior guard averaged 16.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists for Brimfield, which finished 12-17 overall. He scored 43 points off the strength of 11 3-pointers in a win over North Fulton. His individual accolades include all-Prairieland Conference-North Division unanimous first team and all-ICAC first team.
Malachi Persinger, Peoria Christian
The 5-foot-11 junior point guard averaged 20.3 points, 6.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals for the Chargers, who finished 23-12 overall and were tied for second in the ICAC at 5-2. His individual accolades include all-ICAC first team, IBCA all-state first team and Illinois Media all-state first team.
Devon White, Illini Bluffs
The 6-foot-3 junior guard averaged 11.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals for Illini Bluffs, which finished 33-4 overall, winning both the ICAC and Tomahawk conferences and making back-to-back Elite Eight appearances. His individual accolades include all-ICAC first team and all-Tomahawk first team.
Camron Williams, Peoria Heights
The 6-foot-4 senior guard averaged 22.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.0 blocks for the Patriots, who finished 19-14 overall and won a Class 1A regional for the first time since 2010. His individual accolades include all-ICAC first team, unanimous all-Prairieland Conference-North Division first team and IBCA all-state special mention.
