Even LeBron James knows Jalen Ramsey is H.I.M. | Schad

MIAMI GARDENS — Jalen Ramsey won the game. He intercepted the pass in the end zone by leaping to its highest point and snagging hope away from the Raiders.

Then he landed on the ball and was very slow to get up. For sure, it had a Rod Tidwell-slow-to-get-up in "Jerry Maguire" feel.

After he dramatically rose on Sunday, Ramsey, without his Dolphins helmet, began to wave his arms, imploring the fans at Hard Rock Stadium into a state of delirium.

"It’s amazing," Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said of the magical moment. "He got the entire crowd going."

Ramsey has three interceptions in three games as a Dolphin and, yes, he's living up to his nickname of "As Advertised."

And people are taking note. Let's say people of note across this country, and no, I don't mean Taylor Swift.

"ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!!" LeBron James posted on X after Ramsey's second pick sealed a too-close-for-comfort defeat of the undermanned Raiders. "H.I.M."

H.I.M. is an acronym for "His Imperial Majesty" and it's one teammate Tyreek Hill embraces, as well. Yes, he is Him. Ramsey is Him.

They are Miami's two most talented players.

Dolphins general manager Chris Grier deserves credit for not messing it up, executing trades for two superstars who wanted badly to be here.

"I think some of the biggest influence that those two players have in particular are there’s a calming nature that they bring to big moments," coach Mike McDaniel said this week.

Perhaps Hill will get to 2,000 yards. There's an elementary school class at Pinecrest, led by Ms. Mary Martinez, tracking how many yards Hill needs to reach the goal.

They're also tracking Ramsey's interceptions, having estimated five based on games remaining and past performance.

"I know there’s a teacher out there that’s counting down to five," Miami running back Raheem Mostert said after the game. "So it’s exciting to see that she’s going to be at school on Monday teaching the kids about those picks. It’s going to be awesome."

So far, Ramsey has been awesome.

He's making cornerbacks Xavien Howard and Kader Kohou better. He's making pass rushers Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb and Christian Wilkins better.

Jalen Ramsey makes everyone on Dolphins' D better

They get pressure on the quarterback and they know an increase in team turnovers should follow. Ramsey, 29, and Howard, 30, are two of the best ball hawks in the NFL since entering the league together in 2016.

"He’s just kind of like ‘All right, it’s all good,’" Wilkins said of Ramsey. "He’s never rattled, just really always cool, collected like ‘Hey, we’re playing ball, we’re chilling.’"

Ramsey has an aura. Yes, he can be a bit chippy on and off the field. But, like Hill, he has championship pedigree and championship edge.

"I’m really hoping they throw at him, honestly," McDaniel said. "I mean, both interceptions were out of control in difficulty level."

In his return from knee surgery, Ramsey has said he does not feel completely back. The Raiders challenged him deep several times Sunday, and he met the challenge.

Ramsey is allowing a 0.0 opponent passing rating when targeted this season. And he's only going to get better.

Miami's defense was largely bend-don't-break over the first seven games of the Vic Fangio era. But the addition of Ramsey has the unit plotting to make more game-changing plays.

"Would you rather have a lot of turnovers or a lockdown defense?" Ramsey said. "Obviously you would want both, and that’s what we’ll strive to do."

Ramsey's aggressive mindset is impacted his teammates' approach, McDaniel says.

Jalen Ramsey, Tyreek Hill Pro Football Hall of Famers

The Dolphins have at least two players — Hill and Ramsey — who are not only Alpha Dogs, but who will go down as two of the greatest in history at their position.

"Mr. Gold Jacket, Jalen Ramsey, he controlled the game," Miami offensive tackle Terron Armstead said in the locker room Sunday.

Let that sink in.

The Dolphins have Hall of Fame-caliber players.

And they have Ramsey, who it seems clear now, even in his eighth season in the league, is still "H.I.M."
