Free concerts and more coming to Georgia Street during this summer's USA Swimming Olympic Trials
A big pool party is coming to Indianapolis.
As more than 1,000 athletes descend on Lucas Oil Stadium for the USA Swimming Olympic Trials from June 15-23, parts of Georgia Street downtown will feature live music and entertainment for the estimated 250,000 spectators the trials will bring. Swim trials organizers Tuesday announced several attractions for fans, from live DJs to a nearly five-story replica Eiffel Tower. Here's what to know:
Indy will pay homage to Paris with a 66-foot Eiffel Tower
Fifty-two swimmers will secure their ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics during the trials. However, for those who don't make it and fans who balk at the roughly 4,000-mile trip across the Atlantic, a small piece of the City of Lights will appear in the Circle City.
The corner of Georgia Street and Capitol Avenue will feature a replica Eiffel Tower standing 66 feet tall and weighing nearly 20,000 pounds. It's not quite the 984-foot, 10,100-ton behemoth that dominates the Parisian skyline, though it, too, will twinkle at night with lights supplied by AES Indiana. The replica — intended for viewing only — is currently being built by Indy-based Latinas Welding Guild and will be in place from June 10 through the trials' conclusion.
Free concerts will run throughout the trials
No pool party is complete without music, and Georgia Street will feature free concerts June 14-23. Bloomington-based funk band The Main Squeeze kicks off the festivities at 8 p.m. on June 14, followed by nightly performances from 5:30-7 p.m.
See the nearly full lineup — June 22's performer is still unannounced — below.
June 14: The Main Squeeze, a Bloomington-based funk band. Heavy on bass and saxophone.
June 15: lovelytheband, a pop-rock group best known for its inescapably catchy — or gratingly overplayed, depending on your taste — 2017 hit "broken."
June 16: John Driskell Hopkins, a founding member, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist of popular country group the Zac Brown Band.
June 17: The Motet, a funk- and jazz-influenced band from Denver.
June 18: Saved by the 90s, a cover band specializing in 90s songs.

June 20: "Taylor Swift Night: The Taylor Party," a dance party featuring music from this generation's most ubiquitous musician.
June 21: Fastball, a rock band best known for its 1998 hit "The Way."
June 23: Six Foot Blonde, an indie band from Bloomington with soul and retro pop influences.
