Early homecoming wake-up call coming as Missouri football game time vs. Auburn announced

Remember to set your alarms on Friday night.

Missouri football’s homecoming game against Auburn, set for Saturday, Oct. 19, received the earliest possible time slot with an 11 a.m. kickoff, the SEC announced Saturday evening. That sets up an early wakeup call for the university’s homecoming processions.

The all-Tigers affair will air for a national audience on ESPN, the conference announced, as Mizzou begins the second half and most important stretch of its regular season.

The game has long been tabbed for the morning window, but still had to be narrowed down to an exact time and TV slot.

That’s now set: 11 a.m., ESPN.

According to the Mizzou Alumni Association website, the Mizzou homecoming parade through campus and downtown Columbia will have an 8 a.m. start time. Other recent news releases from the university have noted that the start time could be impacted by the kickoff time for Mizzou-Auburn. There is likely to be more information released in the upcoming week.

Missouri defeated UMass 45-3 on Saturday to go 5-1 on the season and complete its nonconference slate. The Tigers are still in the picture for a berth to the 12-team College Football Playoff, but do not have much room for error after a 31-point loss at Texas A&M on Oct. 5.

A win over a streaking Vanderbilt in Week 4, which has beat Alabama and Kentucky in the past two weeks, has helped Mizzou’s résumé, but the Tigers are still in need of more quality wins.

The last time the Tigers played Auburn, Mizzou missed two prime opportunities to win on the Plains as Harrison Mevis missed a chip shot field goal as time expired and running back Nate Peat fumbled into the end zone in overtime to end the game.

This Saturday’s game is sold out, per Missouri athletics. Auburn is 2-4 with wins over Alabama A&M and New Mexico. Coach Hugh Freeze’s team has lost to California, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Georgia. UA will arrive in Columbia on the back of its first idle week of the season.

The game will be Missouri’s third straight 11 a.m. CDT kickoff, with their matchups in College Station and Amherst both starting at the same time.

It will also be Mizzou’s last morning kickoff of the season.

The SEC has already announced that the remainder of MU’s five games — at Alabama; versus Oklahoma; at South Carolina; at Mississippi State; and versus Arkansas — all will kick off in either the afternoon or evening window.
