The Dolphins are adding veteran assistant Joe Barry to the staff as linebackers coach and run game coordinator, a league source said Tuesday.

Linebackers coach Anthony Campanile, who twice interviewed for Miami's defensive coordinator position, won't return.

Barry was defensive coordinator of the Packers for the last three seasons.

In those seasons, Green Bay ranked 13th, 17th and 10th in total defense.

In a playoff upset this year, the Packers beat the Cowboys, 48-32, holding a 41-16 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Barry has served as assistant head coach and linebacker coach for Sean McVay and the Rams. In 2001, Barry was linebackers coach under Monte Kiffin when the Bucs defeated the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII.

Barry coached Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks.

Barry, 53, has coached with Jim Mora, Steve Mariucci, Rod Marinelli, Jim Bates, Raheem Morris, John Pagano and Matt LaFleur.

Barry has experience in multiple systems, such as the Tampa-2 of the Bucs and the Vic Fangio-Brandon Staley system used in Los Angeles.

Barry worked with Staley and the Rams in 2020, when Jalen Ramsey helped the defense finish #1 in the NFL in scoring and total defense.

Barry and Miami coach Mike McDaniel both grew up in Colorado.

Campanile is reportedly headed to Green Bay to coach linebackers.
