'I Didn't Even Know They Stopped The Game': Former Oiler Dylan Holloway Reveals Why He Blacked Out After Taking A Puck To His Neck, And When He Can Play Next
EDMONTON -- Time to breathe a sigh of relief.
It looks like former Edmonton Oilers forward Dylan Holloway will be okay. After receiving an update via a Frank Seravalli report on X, Holloway made a surprise appearance at practice this morning. He was able to share more insight into what transpired last night.
"I don't really remember coming to the bench," Holloway explained. "I just remember telling Ray, our head trainer, that I felt weird and next thing I know I'm next to the ambulance in a stretcher."
Holloway took a puck to the neck in the St. Louis Blues game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

"As soon as the puck hit my neck I knew something was off," Holloway revealed to the St. Louis media. "As soon as I started skating I felt lightheaded. Then when I was going to the bench it kind of felt like when you stand up too fast, you get that head rush."
Hockey players go through a lot. In the playoffs, it's commonplace to battle through broken ribs and dislocated shoulders. This was different.
As far as how he felt after the incident, Holloway revealed to the media a few things.
"I was more in shock," Holloway stated. "A little nauseous too, so they gave me a little medication."
The young forward then talked about where in the neck he was hit, and how that affected him.
"It got really blurry. I don't really remember coming to the bench. Next thing I know I was next to the ambulance on a stretcher."

"They said it's a pretty normal response," Holloway told the media. "I don't know if you watch UFC but sometimes a guy will get into a chokehold and get choked out in two seconds. You get hit in the nerve and you just go out."
So Holloway had blacked out from the time that he had told the trainer something was wrong to the time he realized he was beside an ambulance on a stretcher.
"I didn't even know that they stopped the game," Holloway revealed. With 1:11 left in the first period officials stopped the game.
As for when he will play again, Holloway would like it to be sooner than later.
"I'm hopeful to play tomorrow."
