Detroit Tigers sign No. 11 overall pick Bryce Rainer to over-slot $5.8 million bonus

CLEVELAND — The Detroit Tigers have signed shortstop Bryce Rainer, the No. 11 overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft, to an over-slot bonus.

The 19-year-old, a left-handed hitter from Harvard-Westlake School in California, signed with the Tigers for a $5.8 million bonus, a source with knowledge of the agreement told the Free Press. The slot value of the No. 11 overall pick was $5,712,100, with Rainer signing for an additional $87,900.

Rainer is represented by Wasserman agent Joel Wolfe.

"It was kind of like all the Christmases growing up all put into one," Rainer said July 14, the night the Tigers made him a professional baseball player. "I'm still kind of in a state of shock. It still doesn't really feel real."

The Tigers, as of Monday afternoon, agreed to terms with eight of their 21 selections: Rainer, right-hander Owen Hall (second round), right-hander Josh Randall (third round), right-hander Michael Massey (fourth round), shortstop Jack Penney (fifth round), shortstop Woody Hadeen (sixth round), left-hander Ethan Sloan (eighth round) and right-hander R.J. Sales (10th round).

Hall, an 18-year-old from Edmond North High School in Oklahoma, signed for a $1.75 million bonus, but the slot value of the No. 49 overall pick was $1,893,700, which means he signed for an under-slot bonus.

The Tigers still haven't signed left-hander Ethan Schiefelbein, selected with the No. 72 overall pick as part of Competitive Balance Round B. Schiefelbein is the only pick within the first six rounds yet to sign.

Teams have until 5 p.m. Aug. 1 to sign their draft selections.
