Detroit Tigers prospects Max Clark, Kevin McGonigle called up to High-A West Michigan

Two of the Detroit Tigers' top prospects are moving on up.

Outfielder Max Clark, who the Tigers selected with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft, and shortstop Kevin McGonigle, who the Tigers picked 34 spots later, have both been called up to High-A West Michigan.

The West Michigan Whitecaps announced the news Sunday afternoon, saying "Welcome to West Michigan!" on social media.

GETTING CLOSE: Detroit Tigers' Jackson Jobe leads Double-A Erie in combined no-hitter with four pitchers

Clark is not only one of the most exciting young players in the Tigers' organization, but one of the most exciting prospects in all of baseball. The sweet-swinging lefty is the 10th ranked prospect in MLB Pipeline's top-100 prospects list, coming in just one spot ahead of Tigers' right-handed pitcher Jackson Jobe. In addition, Clark made his debut last week in the MLB Future's Game and hit in the leadoff spot to open the game. It wasn't the best game of Clark's life, but he did pick up a single on a a sharp line-drive off left-handed St. Louis Cardinals prospect Quinn Mathews.

Although McGonigle is not quite as highly touted as Clark, he's still an elite prospect. At just 19, he is the No. 63 player, according to MLB Pipeline, and has more than earned the promotion to West Michigan. With Low-A Lakeland this year, McGonigle slashed .326/.407/.470 with 15 doubles and three home runs after returning from a hamstring injury, and will now try and carry that success to the Mitten State.

Clark, also 19, doesn't hit for the same average that McGonigle does, but has some more pop. He is slashing .286/.386/.421 with seven homers, 11 doubles and three triples.

Both players still have a ways to go before making their debuts with the Tigers, but it is certainly a good sign for Tigers fans to see some of the potential future stars in the organization making the next step.
