Detroit Tigers promote new prospect Trey Sweeney from Triple-A Toledo for MLB debut

The Detroit Tigers are calling up one of the two prospects acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Jack Flaherty trade.

Infielder Trey Sweeney, who joined the Tigers at the July 30 trade deadline, has been promoted from Triple-A Toledo for his MLB debut, according to a source not at liberty to discuss roster moves publicly. The 24-year-old is flying to Detroit on Thursday night and will be available to play in Friday's game against the New York Yankees at Comerica Park.

Sweeney hit .381 with two home runs, five walks and 12 strikeouts in 11 games for the Mud Hens after the trade. He has experience on defense at shortstop and third base.
