Detroit Tigers' Colt Keith, Riley Greene named American League Silver Slugger finalists

Detroit Tigers players Colt Keith and Riley Greene are American League finalists for the 2024 Silver Slugger Award, given to the best offensive player at each position.

Keith, 23, is one of four finalists at second base; Greene, 24, is one of five finalists in the outfield. The winners, as voted on by the manager and three coaches from every team, will be revealed at 6 p.m. Nov. 12 on MLB Network.

Greene — a former No. 5 overall draft pick who made the All-Star team for the first time in his three-year MLB career — carried the Tigers' offense throughout the 2024 season, hitting .262 with 24 home runs and an .827 OPS in 137 games.

In 2024, the AL had six qualified second basemen and 23 qualified outfielders.

The four finalists at second base: Keith (Tigers), Jose Altuve (Houston Astros), Marcus Semien (Texas Rangers) and Gleyber Torres (New York Yankees). The five finalists in the outfield: Greene (Tigers), Jarren Duran (Boston Red Sox), Aaron Judge (Yankees), Anthony Santander (Baltimore Orioles) and Juan Soto (Yankees).

Three outfielders win the award, but only one second basemen wins.

Among the four finalists at second base, Keith ranked fourth in games (148), fourth in plate appearances (556), second in batting average (.260), third in on-base percentage (.309), third in slugging percentage (.380), fourth in OPS (.689), fourth in home runs (13), fourth in doubles (15), first in triples (4), fourth in walk rate (6.5%) and third in strikeout rate (19.8%).

Among the five finalists in the outfield, Greene ranked fifth in games (137), fifth in plate appearances (584), fourth in batting average (.262), third in on-base percentage (.348), fifth in slugging percentage (.479), fourth in OPS (.827), fourth in home runs (24), fourth in doubles (27), second in triples (6), third in walk rate (11%) and fifth in strikeout rate (26.7%).

As for total offense, Keith ranked fourth of four finalists at second base with a 97 wRC+ and Greene ranked third of five finalists in the outfield with a 135 wRC+.

The Tigers haven't had a player win the Silver Slugger Award since Miguel Cabrera at first base in 2016.
