Detroit Lions place Derrick Barnes, Marcus Davenport on injured reserve

The Detroit Lions placed Marcus Davenport and Derrick Barnes on injured reserve Tuesday, two days after they lost the starting defensive players to injuries in a 20-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Davenport will miss the season with a torn triceps, while Barnes will be out a "significant" period of time with a knee injury.

"You never want to lose one of your brothers," Lions defensive tackle D.J. Reader said Tuesday. "The reality of it is, we all know it’s part of the game. They know it, we know it, so they’re going to be here, they’re part of us. You don’t lose them. They always come with you. You just bring those guys with you and you hope that you can be there in their corner as the battle they’re going through, it's a tough battle for them. And the best thing you can do as a teammate is just shine the light on the team, show them what they’ve helped build and what they helped grow didn’t go wasted."

The Lions signed receiver Tim Patrick from the practice squad to the 53-man roster and added cornerback Morice Norris to practice squad. They still have one open spot on their roster.

Patrick played the past two weeks as a practice squad elevation. He had one catch for 8 yards last week in Arizona.
