What Deion Sanders, Colorado players are saying ahead of Nebraska matchup
Although second-year Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders and many of his players are still relatively new to Boulder, the Buffs' disdain for the Nebraska Cornhuskers remains alive and well. We saw plenty of drama unfold during last season's showdown in Boulder, and Saturday's rematch in Lincoln is being labeled as one of college football's premiere Week 2 games.
The 73rd all-time meeting between the Buffs and Huskers is set for 5:30 p.m. MT on NBC at Memorial Stadium.
Here's what Coach Prime, offensive lineman Justin Mayers, wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. and other Buffs are saying ahead of this weekend's rivalry game at Nebraska:
Deion Sanders shares respect for Matt Rhule
"I have a ton of respect for Matt Rhule," Sanders said. "He was a professional. I love what he's accomplished in his college coaching career. I expect them to be tough."
Thoughts on Nebraska QB Dylan Raiola
"You attack weaknesses, I don’t know if you attack inexperience," Sanders said. "If that’s a weakness, so be it. I love what he showed in his first college game.”
"Tremendous rivalry"
"This is a tremendous rivalry and I'm looking forward to it," Coach Prime said.
No red in Boulder
"I'm pretty sure you're not gonna see anybody wearing red this week," Sanders said.
Hopeful Cam'Ron Silmon-Craig will play
"He may be cleared tomorrow," Sanders said. "We're praying so because he is one of the bonafide leaders on the team and his passion is second to none."
OL Justin Mayers says it's personal
“I feel like every week is personal, especially this one," Mayers said. "I hear it’s going to be sold out but that doesn’t faze us.”
All about technique
“Their game on both sides of the ball is the trenches," Mayers said. "I’m not really worried about the size, as long as we worry about our technique, we’ll be alright.”
Jimmy Horn Jr. appreciates the rivalry
“This year I can tell our team is taking the rivalry real seriously," Horn said (h/t Jake Schwanitz). "There’s a lot of history behind it but we’ve just got to rep the CU logo.”
"We know what time it is"
“I’ve watched a couple of their interviews so I’m on that timing," Horn said (h/t Scott Proctor). "My receivers group, we on that timing. We know what time it is.”
