How defending state champ Washington added to its growing wrestling legacy

ROCHELLE — Nine is just fine for Washington wrestling.

The Panthers will make their ninth appearance in the Class 2A dual-team state finals since 2014 after a 45-22 win over Geneseo on Tuesday at the Rochelle Sectional. Washington, the defending state champ, has won seven state trophies in the last nine seasons, including five titles (2023, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016).

Washington now faces Wauconda at 5 p.m. Friday in the state quarterfinals at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington.
