Mike McDaniel, Miami Dolphins agree to new contract extension that could go through 2028

MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins and coach Mike McDaniel have agreement on an extension that could take him through 2028 season, according to league sources.

It's a 3-year extension of McDaniel's original 4-year contract.

McDaniel has led Miami to the postseason in each of his first two seasons, though the club is seeking a first playoff victory under his leadership.

The Dolphins haven't won a playoff game in 24 years. But club owner Stephen Ross has raised Super Bowl contender aspirations this offseason.

Miami was 9-8 and 11-6 over the last two seasons. The Dolphins offense, for which McDaniel calls plays, was first in the NFL last season.

McDaniel has boosted the confidence and production of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

McDaniel relates to players and media and, well, pretty much everyone in a respectful and positive manner.

This extension puts McDaniel under club contract for up to five more seasons.
