DBacks' Corbin Carroll better than Randy Johnson? Luis Gonzalez turns heads with praise
Arizona Diamondbacks legend Luis Gonzalez turned some heads this week when he said that Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll "will ultimately be the best player to ever put on a Diamondbacks uniform."
Gonzalez issued his praise during an interview on the Wolf & Luke Show on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM, saying of Carroll: "He's been here since Day 1, when they've allowed them to come to the ballpark. He's here early. Late in the afternoon all the guys were gone and he was still here. I walked in and asked him what he was still doing here because, you know, it's been a long day and he said 'Just trying to get better' and I kind of scratched my head and I walked out and I said 'if this guy is trying to get better, he couldn't get any better than what he did last year.
"It goes to show you how valuable he is to this team. This guy will ultimately be the best player to ever put on a Diamondbacks uniform."

Corbin Carroll impressed during rookie season with Diamondbacks
That is some effusive praise for Carroll, who won't turn 24 until August.
Carroll impressed in his rookie season for the DBacks, being an integral part of the team's run to a surprise World Series appearance.
He hit .285 in the regular season, with 25 home runs, 76s RBIs and a .362 on-base percentage and was named the National League Rookie of the Year for his efforts, while also coming in fifth in MVP voting in the National League. He also was the first rookie to start an All-Star Game since the Yankees' Aaron Judge, and the first rookie in MLB history to steal at least 50 bases and hit at least 25 home runs.
Not too shabby for his first full season in the major leagues, huh?

Randy Johnson is the greatest Arizona Diamondbacks player of all-time
Gonzalez is considered one of the best Diamondbacks players ever and likely knows greatness when he sees it, but are his comments about Carroll a little premature?
Carroll has only played in one full season with the DBacks. It was a great season, but it was only one season.
It's not going to be easy to catch the player many people consider to be the best Diamondbacks player of all time, a player who was Gonzalez's teammate: Randy Johnson.
In eight seasons in Arizona, Johnson went 118-62, with a 2.83 ERA. He pitched 38 complete games. He pitched a perfect game. He struck out 2,077 batters.
He won four straight Cy Young Awards from 1999-2002 and helped the Diamondbacks to their only World Series title.
He's in the Hall of Fame with a Diamondbacks cap.

Could Corbin Carroll really become the best Diamondbacks player ever?
It is going to take a long career of greatness with the Diamondbacks for Carroll to have a chance to pass Johnson as the greatest DBacks player of all time.
Could he do it? Sure, it could happen. He's a very special player, as shown in his rookie season in Arizona.
But it was just his rookie season and Randy Johnson is one of the greatest pitchers in the history of baseball.
No wonder Gonzalez's comments turned some heads.
