Darin Green Jr.'s 8 three-pointers lift FSU men's basketball past Miami

As one of eight seniors honored in Florida State men's basketball's (16-15, 10-10) final home game of the season against Miami Saturday, guard Darin Green Jr. went out with a bang.

He finished with 26 points and tied his career-high of eight 3-pointers, lifting the Seminoles to an 83-75 win over Miami (15-16, 6-14) at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.

"We had our hands full, but I thought we got stops when we had to do in the critical parts of the game," FSU head coach Leonard Hamilton said. "Obviously, Darin Green stepped up and shot threes very well. We got some big rebounds, some deflections and steals."

Green shines bright on senior night

Green carried the Seminoles' perimeter shooting, hitting 8-of-15 shots. He had all but four of FSU's 3-pointers. He originally set his career-best mark of eight threes in a 93-79 loss to St. John's last season.

"When you work as hard in your game as he does, there's a certain level of confidence that comes to you," Hamilton said. "You feel a certain type of confidence when you get this position on the floor. And then obviously, it meant a lot more to him today, because this is the last time he'll play at The Tuck."

"It meant an awful lot to him."

Fellow senior forward Jamir Watkins continued to pace the offense, finishing with a double-double, 16 points and 11 rebounds. It's his fourth double-double of the season.

Guard Jalen Warley (13 points) and forward Cam Corhen (10 points) also broke into double-scoring figures.

The Seminoles were able to grind out a win despite a poor shooting performance from the field, hitting 40% (28-of-70). Miami was 47.7% (31-of-65) from the field.

Rivalry at its finest

Former FSU guard Matthew Cleveland made his return to Tallahassee after transferring to Miami in May.

He was met by boos from the Seminole faithful, and finished with 16 points.

Forward Norchad Omier carried the heavy load for the Hurricanes, recording a double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds.

The Seminoles have dominated their rivalry against the Hurricanes, going 12-1 in their last 13 games.

"This rivalry means an awful lot to both teams... sometimes it motivates one and sometimes the other might take it for granted. That's just human nature," Hamilton said. "For us, Miami and Florida State, they've had one of the more healthy rivalries that I know of in the United States."

Preparing for postseason

FSU finished the regular season at 16-15 and 10-10 in conference play.

It currently ranks No. 9 in the ACC, likely earning a bye into the second round against No. 8 Virginia Tech on Wednesday at noon at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Going into postseason play, and needing to win the ACC Tournament to make the NCAA Tournament, Hamilton wants his teams to be more consistent with their game.

"Physically, we're capable, but a lot of the things that we would like to be habits for them ... are not there."
