Daniel Jones may be in the final stretch of his time with the New York Giants and if he is, he's not going out quietly.

Jones has been leading by example this season, putting his body on the line for his team and teammates. Although the Giants are only 2-7 this year, no one can say that the effort hasn't been there.

"I think he's made a lot of good decisions. He's improved certain things that we work on. He's got the right mindset," head coach Brian Daboll said on Wednesday.

"Again, we've said this, he's pretty consistent. He doesn't get too high; he doesn't get too low. He does everything he can do every week to try to play as good as he can play the quarterback position for us."

Last week, against Washington, Jones completed 20 of 26 attempts -- a season-high 76.9 percentage -- for 174 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions, for a 119.7 rating.

Jones also rushed for 54 yards and his first rushing touchdown of the season, including this brutal two-year touchdown that earned him the Angry Run of the Week on NFL Network's Good Morning Football.

Jones is one of three NFC quarterbacks (Jared Goff and Baker Mayfield are the others) with two or more touchdown passes touchdown passes versus no interceptions in four separate games this season.

That may not be enough for the Giants to retain Jones and his $41.6 million cap hit for next season. After this season, they have an out clause in Jones' four-year, $160 million deal.

Daboll appears out of answers these days as his team comes up short and he and general manager Joe Schoen try configuring the roster to their goals.

"I think we've got a lot of the right guys that are made of the right DNA. Team first players," he said. "Again, you're not happy about the results, but you control what you can control, which is the upcoming week. We've got a bunch of guys that do that each and every week."

But next year, Jones likely won't be one of those guys.
