'He’s so DAMN GOOD!!!': What LeBron James has said about Dan Hurley in the past

Shortly after UConn won its second consecutive NCAA men’s basketball championship in April, Huskies coach Dan Hurley appeared on JJ Redick’s podcast and spent part of the conversation talking Xs and Os.

For a person intrigued by offensive sets, options and creativity, it was fascinating.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who now teams up with Redick on the popular "Mind the Game" podcast, weighed in on the Redick-Hurley exchange.

"He’s so DAMN GOOD!!! Along with his staff. Super creative with their O! Love it," James posted about Hurley.

Nearly two months later, Hurley soon could be James’ next coach with the Lakers.

The Lakers are preparing to make a "major" offer to to Connecticut's Dan Hurley to become their new coach, USA TODAY Sports has confirmed via a person with knowledge of the Lakers' coaching search.

The person requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly until the Lakers made a coaching announcement.

The news was first reported by ESPN, which characterized the proposal as a "massive, long-term contract offer."

Hurley has no prior NBA coaching experience but has been successful at each college: Wagner, Rhode Island and UConn. He has talked publicly about his NBA coaching aspirations.
