'Dammit. So close'. Busch, Logano, Chastain, other NASCAR stars react to losing the Daytona 500
DAYTONA BEACH — For every driver that leaves the Daytona 500 jovial and fulfilled, there's 39 others that make the long trek to Atlanta full of heartbreak, disappointment and what ifs.
William Byron emerged as the winner of the Great American Race on Monday and there were plenty that were oh-so-close or collected in crashes not necessarily of their own doing. Such is the beast when it comes to the Super Bowl of NASCAR.
Several of those wheelmen took to X after the smoke had settled Monday night to vent frustration, anger or, in some cases, appreciation for their teams and the effort that made the race possible.
Here's some of the best reactions on social media from NASCAR drivers after yet another eventful Daytona 500:
Made it thru the 500 w the car in one piece and had speed but man one of these days I want that 🏆 Proud of the fight in this 🎱 team and yo, Rowdy Nation, I heard u all when we were out front.😏 pic.twitter.com/IK3vpV5Jfo

Almost, Again…
Just keep knocking #DAYTONA500— Brad Keselowski (@keselowski) February 20, 2024
We had a shot at it at the end and that’s all we can ask for. More opportunities like this are ahead for the No. 1 team, thank you @TeamTrackhouse for the great car. We’ll keep fighting on in Atlanta! pic.twitter.com/BvbYeQJovQ

Had an ABSOLUTE rocket today… Started P1 in my @shellracingus @Pennzoil @FordPerformance Dark Horse Mustang, but got clipped in the left rear with less than 10 to go, which collected us in a multi-car pile up and ended our chances to bring home another #Daytona500 trophy. On to… pic.twitter.com/8na5jkkCdM

Wasn’t our day but man am I proud of how our @TeamTrackhouse 99 team performed all week. Today we did exactly what we had to do and executed a good race, doing everything we needed to do. Got caught up in a wreck 9 laps to go while running up front but that’s what happens in… pic.twitter.com/3IqpqVpnIn

Had a fast car, just didn’t have it play out like we needed. Came back from a wreck to finish top 10. Solid start to the season. pic.twitter.com/jRwRJWODKT

Not the most memorable Daytona for the 3 team. Thankful for all the employees at RCR and ECR for building a great race car. Hate we never really got a chance to show what we had. Only way to move forward is to get ready for Atlanta. pic.twitter.com/ORe9yBFv8I
