Which conference should FSU join: Big 10, SEC, Big 12 or stay in ACC? Cast your vote!
Florida State is a team facing lots of questions entering the 2024 college football season. The biggest one: Where will they be playing in 2025?
FSU and Clemson are both embroiled in lawsuits against the ACC as they seek to exit the conference. Rumors have ramped up over the past year of the Seminoles absconding for the Big Ten or the SEC, but recent reports say the two power conferences are not interested in adding more teams. Both grew in 2024: The SEC added Texas and Oklahoma to expand to 16, while the Big Ten swelled to 18 after bringing in USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington.
There is a major conference that is still looking for more: the Big 12. Commissioner Brett Yormark said the conference is "still open for business," even after growing from 10 teams in 2022 to 16 in 2024. Joining the fray this year are Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado, coached by FSU legend Deion Sanders. The Seminoles would become the toast of a new Big 12, which also features an in-state rivalry with UCF.
There is one other option, of course: FSU stands pat and sticks with the ACC. The conference added three more teams for 2024: California, Stanford and SMU.
The biggest prizes would be the Big Ten or SEC with their massive media deals paying teams in the vicinity of $80 million a year. Joining the SEC would pair the Seminoles with the rival Florida Gators and spur a host of other regional rivalries including Alabama and Georgia. The Big Ten, meanwhile, would benefit from entering Florida's media market and becoming truly nationwide.
