College football rankings: Big Ten teams in updated Coaches Poll, AP Top 25 after Week 1

With all six of its preseason US LBM Coaches Poll ranked teams winning in Week 1, the Big Ten Conference will once again be well represented come the release of the Week 2 polls.

Both No. 9 Penn State and No. 23 USC headlined Week 1 for the conference, each picking up statement nonconference wins vs. West Virginia (34-12) and No. 12 LSU (27-20), respectively.

Elsewhere, No. 3 Oregon held off a potential upset by Idaho to win 24-14 thanks to two touchdowns from Heisman Trophy favorite Dillon Gabriel. No. 2 Ohio State lived up to preseason expectations of having one of the best offenses in the country, as the Buckeyes put up 404 yards of total offense in a 52-6 rout of Akron.

No. 8 Michigan started its national championship defense with a 30-10 win over Fresno State. Nebraska picked up its first season opener win since 2019, defeating UTEP 40-7 behind quarterback Dylan Raiola's big day of 238 yards and two touchdowns on 19-of-27 passing. No. 25 Iowa silenced questions surrounding its offense with 40 points vs. Illinois State without head coach Kirk Ferentz.

Elsewhere, Washington and UCLA also each won their first games as a member of the Big Ten. The Huskies defeated Weber State 35-3, while UCLA took down Hawai'i 16-13 on the road with a late field goal.
