Coke Zero Sugar 400 rain update: What's the weather for NASCAR at Daytona?

Xfinity Series haulers will begin pulling into Daytona International Speedway at 7 a.m. Thursday, jump-starting the weekend of the Wawa 250 and Coke Zero Sugar 400.

Will rain come with them?

NASCAR certainly saw plenty of precipitation at Michigan International Speedway last weekend.

First, bad weather delayed the FireKeepers Casino 400 Cup Series race for more than two hours Sunday. Then, after motors finally cranked, the sprint lasted just 51 laps before the skies opened again.

The final 149 laps moved to Monday.

It's a quick turnaround for Daytona. Friday is the first day for cars on the track — Xfinity and Cup qualifying, followed by the Wawa 250 Xfinity event at 7:30 p.m.

The Coke Zero Sugar 400 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

It possesses a long history of rain. Since 1999, eight of the 25 summer races at Daytona — the first 21 in July, the last four in August — have been delayed, shortened or postponed due to bad weather.

In 2005, Tony Stewart won the then-Pepsi 400 at 1:42 a.m. after rain shoved an 8 p.m. start time back to two and a half hours. Ten years later, Dale Earnhardt Jr. one-upped Stewart, taking the checkered flag at 2:40 a.m. The 2015 Coke Zero 400 kicked off at 11:42, three and a half hours late.

Here is what the weather for the rest of the week looks like as of Wednesday afternoon.
