Cleveland Guardians vs. Baltimore Orioles recap; Guards power their way over O's

CLEVELAND — Two teams having arguably two of the best seasons in baseball in 2024 meet for a four-game series as the Guardians welcome the Baltimore Orioles to Progressive Field in a matchup of first-place clubs.

The Guardians enter Thursday 65-42 and holding a six-game lead over the Minnesota Twins in the American League central. The Orioles enter 65-44 and with a slim half-game lead over the New York Yankees.

Together, the Guardians (.607, first in MLB) and the Orioles (.596, third) own two of the top three winning percentages across the league.

Guardians beat the Orioles

Cleveland cruised to a 10-3 win over the Orioles Thursday night, and the Guardians will retain the best winning percentage in baseball for at least another day.

Bo Naylor hits 3-run home run; Guardians cruising against Orioles

For the second consecutive game, Bo Naylor has belted a three-run home run. This one, hit down the right-field line, extends the Guardians' lead to 10-2 in the seventh inning.

Jose Ramirez's power surge continues. After launching three home runs in two games in Detroit, Ramirez has a two-run shot tonight.

Anthony Santander launches solo home run

Some rain has started to come down, and Anthony Santander destroyed a Ben Lively pitch down the right-field line for a solo home run that cuts the Guardians' lead to 5-2 in the fourth inning.

David Fry blasts 3-run home run; Guardians lead Orioles in third inning

Trevor Rogers' Orioles debut isn't going so well, largely thanks to David Fry and the three-run home run he just launched to the bleacher seats in left field in the third inning. That gives the Guardians a 5-1 lead, and Fry's assault against left-handed pitching this season continues.

That was Fry's first home run since May 31.

Josh Naylor gives the Guardians the lead over Orioles

That was a quick response by the Guardians. With Thomas on third, Josh Naylor lined a single to center field to give Cleveland a 2-1 lead in the first inning.

With Steven Kwan on third and Lane Thomas on second, Jose Ramirez tied it up with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Lane Thomas extends league-high on-base streak to 27 games in Progressive Field debut

In his first at-bat as a member of the Guardians at home, Lane Thomas doubled to left field. That extended his current on-base streak to 27 games, the longest active streak in the majors.

Orioles jump on Guardians starting pitcher Ben Lively early

The Orioles grabbed an early lead via Gunnar Henderson's RBI double to center field in the first inning. That scored Colton Cowser, who extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a double down the right-field line to lead off the game.

The Orioles lead the Guardians 1-0.
