Clemson soccer commit, Ransford Gyan, wins second straight Gatorade national player of the year

CLEMSON — Clemson soccer commit Ransford Gyan won his second straight Gatorade national boys soccer player of the year Tuesday.

The midfielder, who was born in Ghana and emigrated to the United States as a child, is the first boys soccer player to earn the honor in back-to-back seasons. He received the award from his coaches and teammates in Tennessee at a youth soccer tournament.

In his senior season at St. Benedict’s Preparatory School in Newark, New Jersey, Gyan recorded 28 goals and 14 assists to help his team to a 15-1 record and the New Jersey Prep School championship game. He also won three Gatorade New Jersey player of the year awards.

Gyan is one of four recruits to join Clemson soccer's 2024 class. The rest of the cycle includes Charlie Reed, Duncan Wilson and Vítor Geromel.

These freshman join a Tigers team that finished with a 14-3-5 record last year and defeated Notre Dame 2-1 to win their second College Cup in three years.

Clemson will begin its journey for its second straight College Cup beginning on Aug. 22 against Penn State at Historic Riggs Field.
