Clemson football running back Phil Mafah scores TD on first play back from injury vs NC State

CLEMSON — Clemson football running back Phil Mafah exited Saturday's game against NC State with an injury with 8:03 left in the first quarter.

The injury occurred when quarterback Cade Klubnik threw to Mafah for a 4-yard gain on the Tigers' second drive. He landed hard on the football and was checked by trainers. He went into the medical tent and exited about 10 minutes after with his helmet on. The ABC broadcast said it appeared to be a right-shoulder injury.

Mafah returned to the game on Clemson's fourth drive in the first quarter and scored a 38-yard rushing touchdown on his first snap.

Mafah entered Saturday's game with 177 rushing yards and a touchdown over 26 carries. Running back Jay Haynes replaced him in the game.

Clemson (1-1) leads NC State (2-1) 28-0 in the first quarter at Memorial Stadium.
