Chet Holmgren says Bronny James looks 'like a pro' after NBA Summer League win

Oklahoma City forward Chet Holmgren (7) walks on the court during Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals between the Oklahoma Thunder and the Dallas Mavericks at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024.

Bronny James silenced some doubters during the Los Angeles Lakers' 93-89 win over Cleveland on Thursday in the Las Vegas Summer League.

The son of LeBron James recorded 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocks on 5-for-10 shooting from the floor. James' strong performance drew plenty of praise from people on social media, including OKC Thunder forward Chet Holmgren.

"Looked like a pro," Holmgren replied to a tweet with James' stat line.

Holmgren's comment is seemingly a reference to Boston forward Jaylen Brown, who sat courtside with WNBA players Kysre Gondrezick and Angel Reese during the Lakers' Summer League game against the Celtics on Monday.

Brown was caught having a conversation with the two women by NBC Sports Boston cameras, and lip readers concluded that he was talking about James.

"I don't think Bronny (James) is a pro," Brown said.

"I think he'll be on the G League team, for sure," Gondrezick replied.

"I don't think so," Brown said. "I think because of his name, he'll be on the Lakers."

James, who got selected by Los Angeles in the second round (No. 55 overall) of the 2024 NBA Draft, was struggling in Summer League play up to that point.

The 19-year-old guard averaged five points and four rebounds on a combined 4-for-19 shooting from the floor (0 for 11 from deep) through the Lakers' first two Las Vegas games.

James has turned things around in the two games following Brown's comments, though. He's averaging 12.5 points and three rebounds on a combined 10-for-21 shooting from the floor (3-for-8 from deep).

James has shown that it's best not to overreact to a shaky start in Summer League play, which Brown should know all about.

After getting selected by Boston with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, Brown went 5-for-26 from the floor in his first three Summer League games. James went 6-for-26 from the floor in that same sample size.

"It’s a flex to have your son alongside you in the NBA," Brown said via X on Tuesday following his initial comments. "It reflects greatness and longevity. Bronny has all the tools around him to be successful. I look forward to watching his growth."

Los Angeles will conclude Summer League play with a consolation game against Chicago at 4 p.m. Saturday.
