Sun Belt Conference play is days away for Louisiana football as it hits the road to face a familiar rival in Southern Miss.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (3-1) are looking to build off their momentous win over Wake Forest last week and erase a history of losing to the Golden Eagles. For the past 11-plus years, Southern Miss (1-3) has beaten them and it has continued in the Michael Desormeaux era.

Last year’s game ended in heartbreak as the squads battled it out into overtime, where the Cajuns would come up short losing 34-31. This year, fifth-year quarterback Ben Wooldridge will look to lead them past their bitter rivals. He has thrown for nearly 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns playing a huge role in the Cajuns' 41-38 win over the Demon Deacons.

Having a solid leader like Wooldridge will come in handy if UL finds itself in another shootout with Southern Miss. The Golden Eagles offense is led by junior quarterback and Florida State transfer Tate Rodemaker who has thrown for 440 yards and four touchdowns while sharing snaps with two other quarterbacks.

Despite not having a successful non-conference finish, Southern Miss will look to be a trap game for the Cajuns who haven’t won an SBC opener since 2021.
