Carson Hinzman to start at center for Ohio State football's season opener at Indiana
Ohio State coach Ryan Day confirmed Tuesday that Carson Hinzman will start at center when the Buckeyes open their season at Indiana on Saturday.
“Carson deserves the opportunity to play,” Day said. “He’s practiced well.”
Though a redshirt freshman who enrolled only a little more than a year ago, Hinzman had long looked to be the favorite to anchor the offensive line over Vic Cutler, who transferred from Louisiana-Monroe this past winter.
Hinzman had been taking first-team reps as the center since spring practice and remained ahead of Cutler in Day’s eyes as of last week in the competition to replace Luke Wypler, who left early for the NFL after his redshirt sophomore season.
Day said San Diego State transfer Josh Simmons and Josh Fryar remained in line to start at left and right tackle, as he mentioned last week.
