Buffalo Bills release two-time Super Bowl champion after trading for Amari Cooper

The Buffalo Bills traded for former Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper. Someone had to go to create space.

Buffalo released Marquez Valdes-Scantling on Tuesday.

Valdes-Scantling's Bills career ended after two catches and six games. That's one catch per Super Bowl ring the seven-year veteran owns.

Valdes-Scantling, 30, signed a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Bills in May, fresh off back-to-back Super Bowl titles with the Kansas City Chiefs. He's a big-bodied receiver at 6-foot-4 who came in with more than 3,000 career receiving yards as a deep threat working with future Hall of Fame quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.

Valdes-Scantling's reps dwindled throughout training camp, he was inconsistent in practice and didn't seem to develop a rapport with Josh Allen. His snap count was 39% through the first six games.

Buffalo acquired Cooper and a 2025 sixth-round draft pick from Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and 2026 seventh-round pick.
