It is not shocking in the slightest to see the Canucks claim Patera, as they just lost him through waivers a few days ago to the Bruins. As a result, they were first in line to claim him. If no other team put in a claim for him, the Canucks will be allowed to send him down to the AHL without needing to put him back on waivers.

With the Bruins signing Jeremy Swayman to his new contract yesterday (Oct. 7). They immediately placed both Patera and Brandon Bussi on waivers. While Bussi cleared, they, unfortunately, will no longer have Patera as a part of their goalie depth.
Patera has appeared in eight career NHL games, posting a 3-3-1 record, a .902 save percentage, and a 3.57 goals-against average.
