Brice Ramsey will not transfer from Georgia, after all.

The school announced in March that Ramsey planned to pursue a graduate transfer, but the quarterback/punter has apparently had a change of heart. His mother Yolanda Ramsey told UGASports.com that her son made the decision to finish his career with the Bulldogs after making visits to other schools.

“Brice visited several schools and in the end chose to remain at Georgia to not only further his education but to also contribute in any way he can as he has shown over the course of the last four years,” she said.

Second-year Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart told reporters at SEC spring meetings this week that there was a chance Ramsey would return to UGA for his final season of eligibility. On Thursday, that chance came to fruition.

The return of Ramsey is pretty significant for Georgia. The Bulldogs would have been down to just two scholarship quarterbacks had Ramsey opted to transfer: sophomore Jacob Eason and true freshman Jake Fromm. Eason and Fromm were both fivestar recruits and Ramsey’s return gives them a veteran presence in the position group. On top of that, it gives the program the chance to redshirt Fromm if it wants with the veteran Ramsey serving as the No. 2 quarterback.

Ramsey, who has completed 45-of-74 passes for 582 yards and four touchdowns at Georgia, has punted during his time with the program. On 45 attempts, he has a 38.7-yard average.

Ramsey, a four-star recruit in the 2013 class, was the No. 2 quarterback behind Hutson Mason in 2015 and looked like the favorite to start in 2016, but was supplanted on the depth chart by Virginia graduate transfer Greyson Lambert. Lambert started to begin the season before Eason was handed the keys to the offense.

Eason is slated to start again unless Fromm, an early enrollee, makes up significant ground during preseason practice.
