Brice Ramsey listed as Georgia's No. 1 QB on updated depth chart
On a new depth chart distributed Monday in a team media guide, Georgia listed Brice Ramsey as its starting quarterback heading into preseason camp.
Ramsey, a redshirt sophomore, was the Bulldogs’ second-stringer last year behind Hutson Mason and competed with redshirt junior Faton Bauta for the top spot throughout spring practice. Bauta was listed as the No. 2 quarterback, with walk-on Sam Vaughn at No. 3. However, the depth chart did not take into account the incoming transfer of Greyson Lambert, who started nine games for Virginia in 2014.
Per the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the media guide says that head coach Mark Richt and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer “will continue to assess the options at signal-caller during the 2015 preseason camp,” so clearly nothing is set in stone.
Richt reiterated this point on Twitter late Monday afternoon.
Just so everybody understands, our QB race is wide open and we will decide on a starter sometime during preseason practice! Go Dawgs!

Lambert joins the program as a graduate transfer and is eligible immediately. Lambert, who decided to transfer when he fell behind Matt Johns on Virginia’s depth chart, threw for 1,972 yards, 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2014. By comparison, Ramsey appeared in eight games in 2014, throwing for 333 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions on 24-of-39 throwing.
Schottenheimer, the Bulldogs' new offensive coordinator, said bringing in Lambert was all about creating more competition at the position.
“It doesn’t matter if it is quarterback, it doesn’t matter if it’s the offensive line, we’re trying to create competition,” he said per UGASports.com. “We think that leads to guys raising their level of play, raising their standards so that’s what we’re trying to do.”
Additionally, the competition at quarterback was reduced by one in June when redshirt freshman Jacob Park transferred.
