What Brian Kelly had to say about LSU football's Trey'Dez Green's first game at receiver

BATON ROUGE — Coming into the game at Arkansas, Trey'Dez Green had been seeing the field six plays per contest on average.

The LSU football freshman tight end now turned wide receiver ran seven more plays than his average inside Reynolds Razorback Stadium in LSU's resounding 34-10 win Saturday night. Green started the game, lined up out wide in his first game at receiver and was being targeted three times throughout the night by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier in the passing game.

"I thought for his first game where he was in a lot of plays because he was averaging about six plays prior to that, he fared very well," LSU coach Brian Kelly said Monday.

Green had one catch for 8 yards on a quick slant pass in the second quarter.

Kelly told reporters ahead of the Arkansas game that Green was going to be switch positions as LSU contends with a rash of injuries at receiver, including Chris Hilton, who hasn't be healthy enough to play in a game so far along with a season-ending triceps injury to freshman Kyle Parker.

With junior Mason Taylor holding things down at the tight end, finding a way for Green to see the field more has been a priority for the Tigers' offensive coaching staff.

In his limited time on the field, Green has been a mismatch problem for teams and has two touchdown catches, which is tied for fourth on the team. He now has four catches on the season with 30 total yards.

Kelly said that you could tell it was Green's first game at receiver when reviewing the film and the LSU staff likes what he brings to the offense on the perimeter. They expect him to have a growing role in the offense moving forward.

"There's some things we got to work on outside the numbers in terms of releases and such but inside the numbers and hash, he's a difficult target. He's hard to handle inside," Kelly said. "He blocked well for us, blocked on the perimeter. He was assignment correct for the most part.

"I thought it was a really good start for his emergence within what we want to be able to do moving forward."
