Tobias Myers gets the ball in the game of his life Thursday night.

The right-handed pitcher will start for the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 3 of their National League wild-card series against the New York Mets.

Myers has been a revelation for the Brewers after he was called up from the minors in late April, and he'll now look to help send the team to the National League Divisional Series. On the other side, the Brewers will face Mets left-hander Jose Quintana.

Almost right out of the gate in the 2024 season, the Brewers faced significant injuries to its starting pitching staff.

Enter Tobias Myers.

He delivered for the Brewers and then some. Just two years ago, in his seventh minor-league season, Myers went 1-15 with a 7.82 ERA at Class AAA and was cut by three teams.

The Brewers signed him and now, two years later, he's been the team's best pitcher.

He pitched his first big-league game April 23 and never left the rotation. He started 25 games and played a big part in stabalizing the rotation.

The 26-year-old Myers led the Brewers starters with a 3.00 ERA and, during a three-month period beginning in June, he had the best ERA in baseball. For the season, he had a 1.17 WHIP, posted 127 strikeouts and finished with a 9-6 record.

In a time when it's rare to see Brewers starters go seven or eight innings, Myers showed he can be that pitcher. He went eight innings twice in shutout victories. In the first such game, June 7 against the Detroit Tigers on the road, he only allowed one hit in eight innings in the Brewers' 10-0 win. The other eight-inning gem was against the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 9-0 victory July 10 on the road.

He has one start against the Mets in his career and it came less than a week ago.

In the Brewers' final regular-season series, Myers pitched four scoreless innings in Milwaukee's 6-0 win last Saturday night at American Family Field.

He allowed just one hit, struck out five and didn’t allow a walk after relieving Jared Koenig, who pitched one inning after starting the game as the team's "opener."
