Freddy Adu clears the air about his latest departure from a club team
The sad odyssey of Freddy Adu continues. The former Major League Soccer starlet is yet again without a club after parting ways with Serbian side FK Jagodina, his seventh team in the last six years. Reports in Europe stated that Adu had been released after not playing a single game in his sixth-month stint but living a life of luxury as a 25-year-old footballer overseas.
That prompted Adu to get the story straight.

For the first time in three months, he engaged with his Twitter followers of nearly 400,000 to clarify that his six-month contract was merely "done now" and that he knew he was leaving "a few months ago."
Easy guys I signed a 6 month contract. And it's done now. I didn't get "released". Knew I was leaving a few months ago. #truth

Adu then tweeted an hour later to refute the "false information out there."
Thank God for Twitter. There are a lot of false information out there. I signed a 6 MONTH deal and it's done now. Simple as that. #truth

Speculation of Adu's next stop has him coming home, maybe even hooking up with the New York Cosmos, the North American Soccer League team aspiring to become an MLS franchise. Or could this really be the end for Adu?
Ironically, Adu's Twitter page background features a photo of him looking mean in a U.S. men's national team shirt. It's a sad reminder of just how promising of a career the former Nike pitchman had. Adu was still a part of the USMNT program as recent as 2012 when he captained the U.S. side in qualifying for the London Olympics. The team was in position to take one step closer to qualifying but goalkeeper Sean Johnson let in an El Salvador equalizer in stoppage time to end the Americans' hopes. The result left Adu in tears. Afterward, he said, "This is probably the worst feeling I've ever felt in my life so far as a pro athlete. This is going to be hard to get over."
If he only knew.
