Reports: Oregon receiver Bralon Addison tears ACL during practice
Oregon could be without its top returning wide receiver for a substantial period of time.
Multiple outlets are reporting that junior wideout Bralon Addison tore his left ACL in a non-contact drill during practice on Wednesday. He could miss the entire 2014 season.
Addison was second on the team with 61 receptions for 890 yards and seven touchdowns as a sophomore for the Ducks, who dominated Texas in the Alamo Bowl to cap off an 11-2 season. With Josh Huff, last year’s leading receiver, off to the NFL, Addison was expected to be Marcus Mariota’s top target.
Addison’s injury is also a significant blow to Oregon’s special teams unit. He averaged 14.1 yards per punt return and brought two punts back for touchdowns.
In Addison’s absence, senior Keanon Lowe (18 catches, 233 yards, 3 TDs) and sophomore tight end John Mundt (16 catches, 281 yards, 3 TDs) are the team's top returning receivers.
The injury is a tough blow for a team that seems likely to have a high ranking heading into the 2014 season. Coach Mark Helfrich will need someone to step up in a big way in Addison's absence.
