Bills draft linebacker in fifth round: What to know about Edefuan Ulofoshio
ORCHARD PARK - With the second of their three fifth-round picks, the Bills have added some depth to the linebacker room and special teams by selecting Washington’s Edefuan Ulofoshio.
Ulofoshio was the 160th overall pick, and the Bills were scheduled to pick again at 163, but for the second time Saturday, Brandon Beane made a deal, this one with Green Bay. He traded 163 and moved down to 168, plus picked up a sixth-round pick at 219.
Ulofoshio was a six-year player for the Huskies because of the Covid year, but in four of those seasons he played in five games or fewer due to the pandemic and injuries.
He ultimately played in 44 games with 26 starts and made 251 tackles, 15 for lost yardage including seven sacks, and had five forced fumbles, two recoveries and an interception. That interception came in 2023 against Cal, and he returned it 45 yards for a touchdown.
At 6-foot and 239 pounds, Ulofoshio will probably get a long look on special teams because with Terrel Bernard and Matt Milano starting, and Nicholas Morrow, Dorian Williams and Baylon Spector ahead of him on the depth chart, there’s very little chance he’ll be playing defense if he makes the team.
In fact, he could be a player who the Bills try to get onto their practice squad because it would be unusual for the Bills to keep six linebackers on the 53-man roster.
In 1984, Ulofoshio’s father, Steve, immigrated from war-torn Nigeria to Alaska and as he built his new life, he earned a degree from the University of Alaska-Anchorage. To pay for his schooling he drove a cab, and eventually he opened his own company called Consumer Care Network that provides in-home services for the elderly and people with disabilities. He also built a successful real estate business.
He and his wife, Joyce, raised five boys.
Of Ulofoshio, Dane Brugler of The Athletic wrote, “Ulofoshio might have a capped ceiling inthe NFL, but he has overachieved at every other level because of his football instincts and active play style. He has the “all-in” mentality of a core special teamer who can make a living covering kicks while competing for defensive snaps.”
