Best available players heading into Round 2 of the NFL draft
The first round of the NFL draft provided a few surprises and a few late-rising prospects who populated the back end of the first 32 picks.
One big surprise from Thursday evening: No Drew Lock in Round 1.
Another one: One cornerback was taken and it wasn’t our top two graded corners.
Here are the top players on our board still available (numbers correspond on where they ranked in Yahoo Sports’ top 100):
13. Washington CB Byron Murphy
Key stat: Since 2000, there have been only six cornerbacks drafted in Round 1 who were 6-foot or shorter, weighed 200 pounds or less and who ran a 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine slower than 4.5 seconds.
14. Florida OT Jawaan Taylor
Key stat: Taylor earned the third-highest run-blocking grade among starting Power-5 tackles in 2018, according to Pro Football Focus.
16. Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf
Key stat: Metcalf caught 26 passes in an injury-shortened 2018 season, but nine of those catches went for 30 yards or longer.
19. LSU CB Greedy Williams
Key stat: As a redshirt freshman in 2017, Williams became only the third player in the SEC since 2008 to lead the conference in both passes defended and interceptions.
22. Oklahoma OL Cody Ford
Key stat: Played in only 29 career games, starting 21 (14 at right tackle and seven at left guard).
28. Washington S Taylor Rapp
Key stat: As a true freshman, Rapp had two two-interception games — one vs. USC and one in the Pac-12 championship game where he was named the game’s MVP after running a pick back for a 35-yard touchdown on the first play of the second half.
30. Missouri QB Drew Lock
Key stat: Lock’s TD-INT ratio against non-conference teams in 2018 was 14-1 in five games. In eight games against SEC opponents, that ratio was 14-7.
Top 100 prospects: Nos. 31-40 | 41-50 | 51-60 | 61-70 | 71-80 | 81-90 | 91-100
