The Cincinnati Bengals lost yet another defensive lineman on Monday, with rookie McKinnley Jackson getting carted from the practice fields near Paycor Stadium with an injury.

Jackson did limp off under his own power before being carted back to the stadium, so there's a chance the trip was precautionry.

But on the same day, the team announced that the defensive end Cam Sample was lost for the season due to an Achilles tear, so it's not exactly what the team wanted to see.

In fact, we had already written about free agent targets the Bengals should pursue in free agency because of the injury woes before Sample and Jackson's injuries. Both Trey Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard remain “week-to-week” with their own minor injuries, too.

Now, Jackson's injury puts some stress on the interior, too. Sheldon Rankins just had a veteran's day. Primary backups Zach Carter, Jay Tufele, Domenique Davis and Travis Bell continue to fight for roster spots, too.

Jackson, along with second-rounder Kris Jenkins Jr., were expected to be roster locks, although needing plenty of snaps this summer to learn and develop.

Now, the team might need to look on the open market to see about interior help, too, if merely to prevent unnecessary snap counts and strain on guys who will be eating most of the snaps during the regular season.
