The Cincinnati Bengals could look to free agency once again if setbacks continue to hit the defense during this early part of training camp.

Cincinnati already added a trio of free agents to round out the roster at key spots. Since, the defensive end has suffered multiple setbacks, with Sam Hubbard avoiding a serious injury and Cam Sample recently leaving on a cart, set to miss an unknown amount of time.

Considering Trey Hendrickson is already taking it easy as a "week-to-week" player with an injury, too, the team won't want to put too big of a workload on the likes of Joseph Ossai and Jeff Gunter.

While roster hopefuls like rookie Cedric Johnson won't mind the work, the team could look to the following cheaper veterans to eat some summer snaps:

Carl Lawson: The former Bengals draft pick is still out there on the market and taking visits with teams. He had a quiet 2023, but seven sacks and 24 quarterback pressures in 2022 suggest he's got something to offer if both parties are interested in a reunion.

Charles Harris: A former first-round pick, Harris had 7.5 sacks in 2021 with Detroit, yet has fallen off the map since due to injuries and otherwise. Still, if he's healthy, he could play a rotational role over the summer that helps keep everyone fresh.

Yannick Ngakoue: Formerly a huge name, Ngakoue is a former Pro-Bowler who has played with five teams since 2020. He started 13 games in Chicago last year before suffering a broken ankle. In 2022, he had 9.5 sacks and had four last year before his season ended early.
