Bellarmine basketball gets a TBT team, will compete in Louisville regional
Bellarmine is getting in on The Basketball Tournament (TBT) fun.
The Knights on Friday announced they have a squad participating in this summer's TBT, a 64-team tournament with a $1 million grand prize. The group of mostly Bellarmine alums, which is called UKnighted, will be part of a regional running July 19-24 at Freedom Hall — their home court.
They are Kentucky's third TBT team.
A group of primarily former Louisville players, headlined by Montrezl Harrell, Peyton Siva and Russ Smith, will also compete in the regional at Freedom Hall. And its winner will play the winner of a regional held at Rupp Arena, hosted by UK alumni team LaFamilia, in a July 30 quarterfinal.
Leading the way for UKnighted is Braydon Hobbs, a New Albany, Indiana, native who in 2012 was named the Division II National Player of the Year.
"I ended my playing career with an injury, so it will be enjoyable to compete for something again," Hobbs said in a news release from Bellarmine Athletics. "I'm looking forward to getting all the Bellarmine guys back together as well. We have had a lot of talent come through the program, so it will be nice playing with them and getting us all together."
Other ex-Knights who have committed to play in TBT include Jeremy Kendle (2009-12); Vance Hall (2012-14); Alex Cook (2016-20) and Dylan Penn (2018-22).
"I want to thank the organizers and promoters for the opportunity to reunite the terrific players who represent our program and all those wonderful individuals who represented Bellarmine before them, after them and those in the future," Bellarmine head coach Scott Davenport said in a news release.
"TBT is a tremendous event to grow the interest and involvement in the game that is embraced throughout our community. The players on all the participating teams represent true love and passion for the game of basketball."
