Another twist for Georgia football vs. Georgia Tech: 2025 game in Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Georgia football's rivalry game with Georgia Tech again will have a unique twist in 2025.
The Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets will play on Saturday Nov. 29, 2025 in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The game is being shifted from Georgia's Tech's nearby campus at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
"We always enjoy playing in a first-class venue like Mercedes-Benz Stadium," Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks said in a statement. "This move will only enhance the long-standing tradition of the Georgia-Georgia tech game and will provide another outstanding event for our fans."
This year's game is played on Friday of Thanksgiving week in Athens on Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
Georgia opened this season against Clemson in Mercedes-Benz Stadium and played regular season games there under coach Kirby Smart against Oregon and North Carolina.
The 2027 Georgia game against Georgia Tech will return to the Yellow Jackets campus.
Georgia Tech annually plays a game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium now and the Bulldogs matchup is the one for 2025.
Georgia Tech athletic director J Batt wrote in a letter to fans posted on the school's athletics website:
"We know that some of you may be apprehensive that Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate will be played off-campus for the first time since Bobby Dodd Stadium opened in 1913. Please know that we understand that concern and know that this was not a decision that was made lightly."
He cited revenue that will come from the game as a major factor.
"In partnering with AMB Sports and Entertainment (AMBSE) to move Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for 2025, we agreed to changes in the contract that calls for us to play one game annually at Mercedes-Benz Stadium through 2026. As part of the new agreement, AMBSE will provide us with a $10 million guarantee just to play the 2025 Georgia Tech-Georgia game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, a transformative revenue lift for Tech Athletics. In addition to the $10 million guarantee, the reworked agreement with AMBSE will provide Tech season ticket members with seating priority opportunities that they haven’t had for our previous games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium."
