Alex Rodriguez, Jennifer Lopez deny report of break up, say they are 'working through' things
One of the biggest power couples in the entertainment industry are still together. Former New York Yankees All-Star Alex Rodriguez and music icon Jennifer Lopez denied a report they had broken up, but admitted they are "working through some things."
A report emerged Friday suggesting the pair had called it quits. Lopez and Rodriguez released a joint statement to USA Today on Saturday disputing that report.
"All the reports are inaccurate. We are working through some things," the couple said in a joint statement provided Saturday to USA TODAY by Rodriguez's representative Ron Berkowitz.
The pair started dating in 2017, and got engaged in 2019. They were supposed to be married in 2020, but postponed the wedding twice as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lopez told USA Today.
Lopez admitted in December there was no rush to get married to Rodriguez. She also said the two had talked about not getting married — similar to Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, who have been together for over 35 years but were never married.
Rodriguez hasn't posted a photo with Lopez on Instagram since February. He did put up a post Friday asking fans if they had plans for the weekend.
Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez tried to buy Mets
In 2020, Lopez and Rodriguez made waves by being part of an ownership group that tried to buy the New York Mets. The two were aggressive in their pursuit of the team, though eventually lost out to Steve Cohen.
Rodriguez — who joined ESPN in 2018 — will continue his role as part of the "Sunday Night Baseball" booth in 2021.
