Texas Tech football starts well on the road. Is that allowed?

For at least one half, the Texas Tech football team proved it can go on the road and compete at a high level. After both teams traded punts on their first two drives, the Red Raiders starting putting together drives on both ends of the field.

And rather than settle for a 15-3 lead at halftime, Behren Morton hooked up with Caleb Douglas on a 57-yard bomb to push the advantage to 15.

Turnovers a delight for Tech

The Red Raiders came up with three turnovers in the first half, two on interceptions by Quincy Ledet Jr. — the big fella even showing off his leaping ability on the return — and C.J. Baskerville late in the half to set up the Douglas deep ball for more points.

The third came on a 4th-and-1 deep in its own territory. These don't appear in the stat column, but they can be just as important.

Tides turn in the third

Texas Tech's offense sputtered in the third quarter, totaling 17 yards in the frame. One drive ended when the usually sure-handed Tahj Brooks fumbled deep in Tech territory.

The Red Raider defense held the Wildcats to a pair of field goals before Quali Conley finally got Arizona's first touchdown late in the third to trim the deficit to 18-16.

Tough time in Tucson for Tahj

Brooks fumbled for the second time on the night on the first play of the third quarter. Arizona used it to take a 19-18 lead on Tyler Loop's fourth field goal of the game with 10:07 left in regulation.

It's another blown double-digit lead on the road for Texas Tech last year, the Red Raiders led Wyoming 17-0 after the first quarter before falling 35-33 in double overtime.

Jacob Rodriguez saves the day

After a Gino Garcia field goal to regain the the lead (21-19), Jacob Rodriguez punched the ball out and Brenden Jordan recovered the fumble. Brooks iced the game with a 32-yard touchdown.
