3 things to know about former Ohio State football star Chase Young ahead of Super Bowl
Ohio State will add a player to its list of Super Bowl participants Sunday night.
Former Ohio State defensive end Chase Young will try for his first Super Bowl ring in Las Vegas when the San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs at 6:30 p.m.
In three seasons with the Buckeyes from 2017-19, Young posted 98 tackles, 40.5 tackles-for-loss and 30.5 sacks.

Chase Young is the eighth Ohio State DL to play in the Super Bowl

Young is not the first Ohio State defensive lineman to play on the biggest NFL stage.
Young is the eighth former Ohio State defensive lineman to be on the roster of a team that made it to the Super Bowl. The seven previous OSU defensive linemen have played in 10 Super Bowls, including Minnesota Vikings DL Jim Marshall who played in four.
In those games, Ohio State defensive linemen have combined for 31 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 tackles-for-loss, 2 pass deflections and 3 quarterback hits.
Chase Young has not been on the San Francisco 49ers for long
Young's time with the 49ers has been short lived.
The 49ers acquired Young in a midseason trade with the Washington Commanders for a third-round pick after playing in 19 games since his award-winning rookie season in 2020.
Young did not start in his first nine games with the 49ers, but recorded 10 tackles and 6 quarterback hits along with 2.5 sacks and 1 tackle-for-loss.
Chase Young is one of two Defensive Rookies of the Year on the 49ers defensive line
Young made an impact immediately upon entering the NFL.
After being selected with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2020 NFL draft by Washington, Young posted 44 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss and 7.5 sacks, and finished as the 2020 Associated Press and Pro Football Writers Association's Rookie of the Year.
But Young is not the only former Ohio State Defensive Rookie of the Year on the 49ers defensive line.
Young will play with Nick Bosa: the former No. 2 overall pick by the 49ers in 2019, who was the 2019 AP Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Bosa and Young played together for Ohio State in 2019.
