2024 NFL mock draft: Why the Colts will look at cornerbacks closely
The Indianapolis Colts hold the No. 15 pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and they are about to get a long look at several potential picks in this week's NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
Players will be interviewed, have medical tests and do drills at Lucas Oil Stadium. Teams will use all those measurements to determine their preferred draft targets.
Here's how the Colts' first-round needs are viewed heading into the combine. Beyond Kenny Moore II, who is a free agent, they were particularly young at cornerback in 2023. These needs may change, depending on the Colts' moves in next month's free agency period.

2024 NFL mock draft: Colts need a cornerback
Pro Football Focus: Kool-Aid McKinstry, CB, Alabama
He is the ideal athlete at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds to play as an outside cornerback and has been starting since his true freshman season. In 2022, he played 796 snaps out wide, all of which came as a right cornerback. His mirror ability and recovery speed are NFL caliber for how much press coverage he plays (427 of his 518 total coverage snaps were in press).
His hips are fluid and explosive. He also has a ton of production on the ball in the form of forced incompletions (18) due to his great instincts with his back to the ball. He needs to get stronger to mitigate separation and penalties called on him, but the rest is there as a projected first-rounder.
Will Helms, Pro Football Network: Brock Bowers, TE, Georgia
This is probably the fifth or sixth different team I’ve had taking Brock Bowers, and every time, I’ve thought, “This offense could really use a guy like Bowers.” He fits in so many different schemes, and getting Anthony Richardson another young target is a huge priority for the Colts this offseason.
Gennaro Filice, NFL.com: Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo
Arguably the most impressive player at the Senior Bowl, Mitchell isn’t as long as last year’s second-round selection, JuJu Brents, but he offers ample size to go with explosive speed and supreme ball skills. There is a world where this Toledo prospect is the first cornerback selected.
Rick Spielman for CBS Sports: Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama
‘This is a no-brainer. They gotta take the top corner in the draft, so I'm going to go with Terrion Arnold.' Rick's got Arnold as 1A and Quinyon Mitchell as 1B in his 2024 cornerback prospect rankings.
Danny Kelly, The Ringer: Laiatu Latu, edge rusher, UCLA
I love the talent of Latu but worry about the medicals — what doctors find during the NFL combine later this month in Indianapolis will be big for him. The Colts had a great pass rush by committee last season — Samson Ebukam, Kwity Paye, and Dayo Odeyingbo had at least eight sacks apiece rushing off the edge — but would benefit from introducing a true edge rusher into the mix. Latu has that potential given his length, bend, and advanced rush technique.
Daniel Jeremiah, NFL.com: Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson
Wiggins is going to put on a show at the NFL Scouting Combine and might be drafted earlier than this slot. The Colts have proven they value traits, and this Clemson product is the big-time-traits corner in this year’s draft.
